Description
Meyhoefer Chalazion Curette
The Meyhoefer chalazion curette offers the widest size range in our chalazion line. Nine cups run from 0.5mm up to 4.5mm. So you can fit the cup closely to each lesion.
The full size list
We make it in 0.5mm, 1.0mm, 1.5mm, 1.8mm, 2.0mm, 2.5mm, 3.5mm, 4.0mm and 4.5mm. That spread covers very small cysts as well as large ones. In practice, most clinics stock a few sizes rather than all nine.
Building a sensible set
Start with the sizes you see most, then fill the gaps.
- Small set: 1.0mm, 2.0mm and 3.5mm.
- Fine work: add 0.5mm and 1.5mm.
- Large cysts: add 4.0mm or 4.5mm.
Using a curette on the lid
After the lid sits in a clamp, the surgeon opens the chalazion. Then the curette clears the material inside. Short, firm strokes work best. Also, keep the cup edge against the wall to clear it well.
Comparing it with other curettes
Our Gills curette has two cups, and our Hebra has five. The Meyhoefer, by contrast, has nine. So choose it when you want the finest steps between sizes. All three share the same basic task. Even so, the finer steps here help when a lesion falls between two common sizes.
Care for small cups
Small cups trap material, especially the 0.5mm and 1.0mm sizes. Therefore, brush them right after use. Then rinse, dry and check the rim under good light.
Buying Meyhoefer curettes
Meyhoefer curettes arrive non-sterile and you may reuse them after cleaning and sterilization. All nine Meyhoefer sizes enjoy three years against manufacturing defects from delivery. Meyhoefer steel follows ASTM F899. For a simpler range, see the Gills curette. Then visit our eye and lid instrument range or the FAQs page.
