Gills Chalazion Curette

A Gills chalazion curette has a small, sharp cup at the end of a slim handle. You use it to scrape out the soft contents of a chalazion. We make it in two cup sizes: 1.0mm and 2.0mm.

What a chalazion curette does

Chalazia form when an oil gland in the lid gets blocked. After the surgeon opens the cyst, the curette clears out the material inside. Then the cup edge scrapes the wall so less material stays behind. Usually, a chalazion clamp holds the lid steady during this step.

Choosing 1.0mm or 2.0mm

Pick the cup to match the lesion.

• 1.0mm: for small cysts and tight spaces.
• 2.0mm: for larger cysts where you need to clear more at once.
• Both: handy if your clinic sees a wide mix of cases.

Holding and working the cup

Hold the handle like a pencil. Then draw the cup toward you in short strokes. Small moves give better control than wide sweeps. In addition, keep the cup edge facing the wall of the cyst, since that is where the cutting happens.

After the procedure

Material can lodge in the Gills cup, so wash it promptly. First, rinse it under running water. Next, brush the inside of the cup with a soft brush. Finally, dry it and check the rim for dents before you pack it.
