Description
Mead Mallet With Interchangeable Ferrozell Faces
The Mead orthopedic mallet is a mid-weight hammer with a 26 mm head. You can order it with solid faces or with interchangeable Ferrozell faces.
Two versions
The solid version gives a crisp, direct strike. Meanwhile, the Ferrozell version softens each blow and protects instrument handles. Because the faces swap out, worn ones are easy to replace.
Size and weight
The mallet is about 17 cm long and weighs around 320 g. Its head measures 26 mm. That puts it in the middle of the weight range.
Who uses the Mead orthopedic mallet
Oral, maxillofacial and orthopedic surgeons all use the Mead pattern. Additionally, it drives chisels, gouges and small osteotomes. In addition, the faced version suits teams who want a quieter strike.
Which version to choose
Pick solid faces for firm, efficient blows. However, if you want to spare your instruments, choose the Ferrozell faces. Either way, the balance stays the same.
Changing the faces
When a synthetic face wears, unscrew or remove it according to the pattern and fit a new one. Then check that it sits tight before use. As a result, the mallet strikes evenly again.
