Mathieu Needle Holders
Closing an oral or facial incision means driving many needles in a row, often with one hand. Mathieu needle holders are a palm-held pattern that surgeons favor for fast, repetitive suturing. We offer five versions. They vary by length, by tungsten carbide and, in one case, by a Grip pattern.
The Five Options Explained
- 14 cm: the compact all-steel version, handy for intraoral closure.
- 14 cm, Tungsten Carbide: the same length with tungsten carbide added.
- Grip, Tungsten Carbide, 14 cm: a separate Grip pattern, also 14 cm with carbide. Compare its photo for handle shape.
- 17 cm: a longer all-steel version for more reach.
- 17 cm, Tungsten Carbide: the longer length with tungsten carbide.
Why Choose Tungsten Carbide
Tungsten carbide is much harder than stainless steel. Therefore, versions that include it tend to hold a needle firmly over a longer working life. However, they cost more. So a busy surgical practice often picks carbide, while an occasional user may prefer plain steel.
14 cm or 17 cm in Practice
The 14 cm length keeps your hand close for anterior flaps. Meanwhile, the 17 cm length reaches molar areas and extraoral wounds more comfortably. Also, a longer instrument keeps your knuckles away from the lips.
Ready for the Tray
Our Mathieu needle holders ship non-sterile. Clean each one, lubricate the joint per your protocol, and autoclave it first. Our team in the United States checks needle grip on each one before dispatch. In addition, we honor three years against manufacturing defects on all five versions, ordinary wear excluded.
Steel components meet ASTM F899. For cutting tissue during the same case, see our Metzenbaum scissors. Then browse all needle holders, or consult our FAQs on carbide options.
Only for trained surgeons and suturing staff. Joint lubrication notes: care and sterilization. Order transit: shipping and delivery.
