Description
Mathieu-Slim Beak Needle Holder
The Mathieu-Slim Beak Needle Holder is the orthodontic version of the classic palm-grip Mathieu. Its narrow beak grabs one elastomeric module at a time, so the chairside team can work quickly through a full arch.
Placing Elastic Ligatures with the Mathieu-Slim Beak Needle Holder
Elastic ligatures, also called O-ties or modules, come moulded onto a plastic stick, and this Mathieu-Slim needle holder is built to work them. The assistant closes the slim tips on a single module and twists it free of the runner. Next, a squeeze of the handles locks the ratchet, so the tie stays put while it stretches. Finally, the module rolls over the bracket wings and seats behind the archwire.
Key Features
- Slim, tapered beak that picks a single module off the stick
- Fine serrations that grip the tie without tearing it
- Palm-grip spring handles with a self-locking ratchet
- Stainless steel throughout, in 12, 14, 15, 17 and 20 cm lengths
Who Uses This Instrument, and Why
Orthodontists and orthodontic assistants use the Mathieu-Slim needle holder at every adjustment visit, since each bracket needs a fresh tie. The thin tips also fit between closely spaced brackets on anterior teeth. In addition, some clinicians use it to twist and tuck steel ligature wires. Most practices choose the 14 cm length, because it sits comfortably in a smaller hand.
Care and Maintenance
Release the ratchet before cleaning the Mathieu-Slim needle holder. Then scrub the beak with a soft brush and a neutral pH detergent, rinse, and dry it fully. Sterilize it by autoclave with the ratchet open, so the spring handles keep their tension.
Quality and Warranty
Each Mathieu-Slim needle holder is surgical-grade stainless steel, and we inspect it in the United States before it ships. Our warranty covers it for three years against manufacturing defects, so you can rely on it visit after visit. For more guidance, visit our FAQs or browse our full range of dental instruments. For background on material standards, read ASTM’s F899-20 standard for stainless steel surgical instruments.

This is a professional-use product; because it is made from stainless steel, which contains nickel, Intrace USA cannot accept liability for allergic reactions or other material-sensitivity effects.
