Description
Markham-Meyerding Retractor
The Markham-Meyerding retractor is a hand-held retractor for spinal surgery. An assistant holds it so the blade keeps the paraspinal muscle away from the lamina.
What the pattern does
Meyerding-style retractors belong to the classic laminectomy tray. The blade hooks under the muscle edge, and then the handle lets an assistant pull steadily. As a result, the surgeon keeps a clear view of the posterior spine.
One compact size
We offer this model at 18 cm overall with a blade of 32 x 25 mm. That small blade suits a short incision or a single spinal level. For wider exposure, however, a larger Meyerding blade may serve better.
Its place in a spine set
Many teams keep a pair on the tray, one for each side of the wound. Surgeons also reach for it when a self-retaining retractor cannot sit well, for instance near the end of a case. Because it stays in the hand, the assistant can adjust tension moment by moment.
Is this the right blade for you?
First, think about the depth and width of your usual approach. Next, compare the 32 x 25 mm blade with the retractors you already stock. If you need a different blade, ask us and we will check what else fits your set.
Caring for your Markham-Meyerding retractor
Wipe blood from the blade right after the case so nothing dries in the curve. Then wash it with a neutral detergent and a soft brush. Rinse, dry completely and sterilize it following your facility’s usual cycle.
