Description

Maltz Rasp

The Maltz rasp is a nasal rasp for shaping bone in rhinoplasty. Surgeons use it to lower a dorsal hump and smooth the nasal bones after reduction.

Straight or curved

You can choose a straight or a curved shape. A straight rasp follows a flat, direct path along the dorsum. Meanwhile, a curved rasp can help the surgeon reach around the contour of the nasal bones.

Four options in total

Each shape comes in two patterns, listed as Option 1 and Option 2. So you have four choices altogether. All of them share a 40 x 7 mm blade. Because the listing gives no further detail on the two patterns, contact us and we will send photos before you order.

Rasping after osteotomy

Surgeons often rasp once the main bony cuts are done. For instance, small steps can remain where a hump came off. A rasp then blends those edges, so the dorsum feels even under the skin.

Choosing a version

First, decide between straight and curved, since that matters most to technique. Next, compare the two patterns in the photos we send. If you are replacing an older rasp, a picture of it helps us match it.

Caring for your Maltz rasp

Clean the teeth before bone debris dries, ideally right after the case. Use a firm brush along the cutting surface, then rinse. Once it is dry, sterilize it alongside the rest of your nasal set.

When you order one of the four versions

Each of the four versions carries a three-year warranty that applies to any workmanship defect. A team member in Atlanta also inspects the 40 x 7 mm blade by hand before shipment. For payment and delivery answers, check our FAQ listing. The standard ASTM F899 lists the steels that suit rasps and other surgical instruments. For a knife from the same designer, see the Maltz nasal knife. Finally, our ENT surgical instruments page shows the whole range.

Option 1 and Option 2 rasps are for professional users only. Our sterilization guidance covers rasp photos and nickel as a part of stainless steel, and our returns information explains the process.
