Mallet
This orthopedic bone mallet comes in ten length and weight combinations. So you can match the mallet to the blade, from fine chisels to heavy impaction.
Light orthopedic bone mallet options
The 18 cm version weighs about 140 g. It suits fine osteotomes and small bones. Also, at 23 cm there are 290 g and 300 g heads for general use.
Medium and heavy options
At 23 cm you can also pick 500, 530, 600 or 940 g. Meanwhile, the 25 cm length comes in 450, 510 and 900 g. The heaviest models drive large osteotomes and seat implants.
Matching an orthopedic bone mallet to the task
Light heads give control, while heavy heads give force. Therefore most trays carry one of each. For example, a 300 g and a 600 g pair covers a wide range of cases.
Length and swing
A longer handle gives more swing and more energy. However, it also needs more space above the wound. In tight areas, a shorter length is easier to use.
Labeling and tray planning
When a tray holds two mallets, staff should tell them apart at a glance. So many teams tape or mark the heavy one. Then nobody grabs a 940 g head for a fine chisel by mistake.

Looking after your mallets
Clean faces and handles after every case. Next, dry them well and check that the heads sit firmly. Label weights on the tray so staff can grab the right one.
