Lucae Paracentesis Needle

The Lucae paracentesis needle is a fine ear instrument for opening the drum. Otologists use the Lucae paracentesis needle to puncture or incise the tympanic membrane and release middle ear fluid.

Paracentesis of the drum

When fluid or pus builds up behind the drum, a small opening relieves it. So the clinician uses a slim needle with a sharp point. The Lucae lets them do this through an ear speculum.

Step by step

First, the clinician cleans the canal and places a speculum. Next, they guide the Lucae point to the chosen spot on the drum. Then a controlled puncture or short cut opens it.

Pairing on the tray

Most trays hold the Lucae with fine suction and a small forceps. For example, suction clears the fluid right after the opening. A second needle pattern can serve as a backup.

Caring for the Lucae point

Protect the point during cleaning. Rinse the Lucae after use, then wipe it gently. Also dry it fully and sterilize it in a tip guard or holder.
