Lucae Mallet
The Lucae mallet is a compact hammer with a small round head. It gives controlled taps on fine chisels and gouges, which suits ear, jaw and hand surgery.
A pattern from ear surgery
August Lucae worked on diseases of the ear, and this mallet comes from that field. Fine work on thin bone needs gentle force. Therefore the head stays small and the balance stays forward.
Two head sizes
The mallet comes with a 19 mm or 25 mm head. The 19 mm version is ideal for the smallest blades. Meanwhile, the 25 mm head adds weight for slightly firmer bone.
Who reaches for the Lucae mallet
ENT, oral and hand surgeons use it most. For example, it drives a small gouge during mastoid work or a fine chisel near a tooth root. Orthopedic teams also use it on small bones of the foot.
Getting the feel right
Tap lightly at first and listen to the sound of the blade. Then increase force only if progress stalls. That way, thin bone gives way gradually rather than all at once.
