Description
Lewis Lens Scoop
The Lewis lens scoop gives you a broad cradle for delivering the lens by hand. It comes with a serrated or a smooth face. The shape supports the lens from below, so you can lift it without squeezing.
Deciding on the Lewis face
Think about the lenses you see most. For soft or average lenses, the smooth face is usually enough. For dense, brown or slippery ones, the serrated face holds better. Some clinics stock both, so the team can swap mid-case.
Lens delivery in small steps
First, slide the scoop under the nucleus. Next, tilt it up slightly so the rim takes the weight. Then draw it out slowly while a second tool helps from above. Finally, check the wound for any trapped pieces.
Why surgeons like the Lewis
Reasons often given:
- Stable cradle for heavy lenses
- Grip choice through two faces
- Simple steel build with no joints
Lewis scoop for heavy lenses
Dense lenses weigh more and can tip off a narrow tool. A broad cradle spreads that weight. So the Lewis gives a calm lift even when the nucleus is large.
Lewis scoop storage
Store it flat so the rim stays true. Also keep it apart from sharps, because a knock can raise a burr. A quick look under good light before each case will show any damage.
