Description
Leksell-Stille Bone Rongeur Forceps
The Leksell-Stille rongeur is a powerful, 23 cm double-action rongeur. It removes bone quickly in spine, cranial and orthopedic work.
A famous name
Lars Leksell was a pioneer of neurosurgery, and the Leksell rongeur became a standard for heavy bone removal. In addition, this version pairs that design with the Stille tradition. Consequently, it combines strength with good control.
Double action
The compound joint multiplies hand force at the jaws. Therefore each squeeze takes a firm bite with little strain on the forearm. The spring then reopens the jaws for the next bite.
Where the Leksell-Stille rongeur helps
Spine surgeons remove lamina and spinous processes with it. Also, orthopedic surgeons trim large bone edges. In cranial work, it widens burr holes and trims the bone flap edge.
Safe use near nerves
Keep the jaws visible at all times. Then take measured bites, especially near the spinal canal. Avoid twisting the rongeur, because twisting can crack bone rather than cut it.
Hand fatigue
Long decompressions demand hundreds of bites. Thanks to the compound action, the effort per bite stays low. As a result, the surgeon keeps fine control late into the case.
Leksell-Stille rongeur details
- 23 cm long
- Double-action joint
- Cupped jaws for heavy bone removal
- Ships non-sterile
Reprocessing the joints
Bone dust lodges in both pivots, so flush them with the jaws wide open. After a full dry, apply instrument milk or a light lubricant. Then confirm the jaws meet squarely along their length.
Cover at a glance
Surgeons get three years against manufacturing defects on every rongeur from the ship date. An Atlanta colleague reviews the Leksell-Stille pattern closely before dispatch.
