Description
Lamina Spreader
This lamina spreader set opens the gap between adjacent laminae during spinal surgery. Surgeons use a lamina spreader to widen the interlaminar space and give rongeurs and dissectors more room.
Why spread the laminae
The interlaminar window is often small, especially in the lumbar spine of older patients. So a spreader gently pushes the bones apart. As a result, the surgeon sees more of the ligament and the canal below.
Spreader only or set with 3 blades
We offer two options. First, the spreader on its own suits teams that already own compatible blades. Second, the set with three blades gives you a complete kit in one order. Contact us for blade sizes before you choose.
How it works in the case
After exposure, the surgeon seats the blades between the laminae. Then the spreader opens to the width the surgeon needs. Meanwhile, the decompression proceeds through the enlarged window. Finally, the spreader closes and comes out before closure.
Which option suits you
If you are replacing a lost or worn spreader, the spreader-only option may do. In contrast, a new spinal tray usually needs the full lamina spreader set. Also, a spare set helps busy services run cases back to back.
Caring for your lamina spreader set
Remove the blades before cleaning. Then brush the blades, the joint and any mechanism, and rinse away bone dust. Afterward, dry every part, lubricate moving parts if your protocol allows, and sterilize the set together.

Your purchase
Both options come with a three-year warranty whenever a workmanship defect turns up. Moreover, our team in Atlanta opens and checks each set by hand prior to dispatch. See the FAQ for billing and delivery questions. Buyers who ask about the steel get pointed to ASTM F899. A single-piece alternative is the Inge lamina spreader. The rest of the spine range is in our neurosurgery catalog pages.
