Description
Inge Lamina Spreader
The Inge lamina spreader opens the space between neighboring laminae or spinous processes during spinal surgery. Surgeons use it to widen the interlaminar window and improve access to the canal.
How a lamina spreader helps
The gap between two laminae is often narrow. Therefore spreading the bones apart gives the surgeon more room for rongeurs and dissectors. It also improves the view down to the ligament and the dura.
Two lengths
We sell the Inge lamina spreader in 15 cm and 28 cm lengths. The short model suits shallow wounds, such as the cervical spine or a slim patient. Meanwhile, the long model reaches into deeper lumbar exposures without crowding the wound.
Placing it in the wound
First, the surgeon clears soft tissue from the laminae. Next, the spreader tips go between the bones. Then the surgeon opens the handles to the needed width and leaves the spreader in place while the work continues. Finally, it comes out once the decompression ends.
Which length to order
Think about your usual patient build and the level of spine you operate on most. If your cases vary, both lengths make sense. For instance, a spine service that covers neck and lower back work often stocks the pair.
Caring for your Inge lamina spreader
Open the spreader fully before washing so the joint area gets clean. Then brush the tips, where bone dust and tissue tend to collect. After that, dry it, apply instrument lubricant to the joint if your department uses it, and sterilize.

Delivery, warranty and more
Should a flaw in workmanship appear, a three-year warranty covers either length. Also, one of us in Atlanta inspects the spreader by hand while packing your order. The common questions page explains payment and lead time. We use ASTM F899 as our yardstick for surgical stainless steels. After spreading, many surgeons work with a Kerrison disc rongeur. For everything else, open our neuro instrument category.
Meant for clinicians and trained staff. A short read of our care and sterilization notes covers stock photos and nickel, and the returns terms spell out what to do if you change your mind.
