Description
Koos Knife
The Koos knife is a small, curved microsurgical knife for neurosurgery. Surgeons use it for fine cutting under the microscope, for example when they open arachnoid or incise a tumor capsule.
A curved micro blade
Straight knives work well near the surface. However, deep structures often sit at an angle to the line of sight. So a curved blade lets the surgeon cut where a straight one would not reach cleanly.
Up or Down
Both versions measure 18 cm and have a curved blade. The Up version turns the blade upward, while the Down version turns it downward. Therefore the surgeon can pick the direction that meets the tissue best without twisting the wrist.
Where the Koos knife fits
Skull base and posterior fossa work often calls for delicate incisions near nerves. For instance, a surgeon may make a shallow cut in a membrane, then continue with scissors. The knife handles that first precise opening.
One or both directions
If your surgeon cuts mainly in one direction, one version may do. Still, most micro sets carry both so the team never has to improvise. Tell us about your current knives and we will help you decide.
Caring for your Koos knife
Guard the blade edge at all times. Rinse it gently and avoid brushes that could dull the edge. Then dry it with a soft cloth, fit a tip protector, and sterilize it in a micro tray away from heavier steel.

Shipping, warranty and suggestions
If workmanship lets you down, the knife has a three-year warranty to fall back on. We also examine each knife ourselves in Atlanta, one at a time, before dispatch. For ordering help, head to our FAQ center. Stainless steel for surgical instruments has its own standard, ASTM F899, which we use as a guide. For a lateral cutting design, see the Kraus knife. Many more micro tools sit in our neurosurgery instrument category.
