Description
Surgical Knot Tier
The surgical knot tier pushes suture knots down to deep tissue. Each throw slides along the thread and settles firmly against the structure being tied.
Why use a surgical knot tier
Fingers cannot always reach the bottom of a deep wound. In addition, a slim pusher can. As a result, each knot sits snugly without pulling on the tissue.
Length
At 23 cm, it reaches deep in the pelvis and chest. Meanwhile, the slim tip leaves room for other instruments.
Typical procedures
Pelvic, thoracic and deep abdominal surgery use it. For example, it helps tie a deep vessel. It also secures sutures in narrow spaces.
Technique
Form the throw outside the wound. Then slide it down with the tip while keeping tension on both ends. Repeat for each throw.
Pairing
A ligature catcher brings suture ends up from the depths. The knot tier then sends the knots back down. Together they make deep tying easier.
Surgical knot tier with monofilament
Monofilament sutures slip easily, so each throw needs to sit flat before the next. Pushing every throw down with the same pressure therefore gives a knot that holds.
