Description
Knolle-Pearce Irrigating Lens Loop Cannula
The Knolle-Pearce irrigating lens loop combines a lens loop with an irrigating channel. You can slide the loop behind the nucleus and use fluid to help ease it out. So it suits manual extracapsular and small incision cataract work.
Loop plus fluid
A plain lens loop supports the nucleus from behind. However, it can press on the capsule. With irrigation, fluid creates space and helps the nucleus slide forward. As a result, the loop can do its job with less force.
Features
There is a single pattern, with no size choices. It offers:
- Lens loop for nucleus support
- Irrigating channel to the loop
- Hub for a syringe or a line
- Stainless build for repeated cases
Loop delivery technique
Make sure the wound is wide enough. Then slide the loop under the nucleus with a gentle flow running. Lift slightly and draw the loop toward the wound. Let the fluid help, rather than forcing the nucleus out. Also, keep the loop away from the posterior capsule.
Loop or cannula
Some surgeons prefer an irrigating cannula alone for delivery. Others like the support of a loop. If the nucleus is large or the wound is tight, the loop often gives more control. Therefore, many keep both on the tray.
Cleaning a loop
Lens material clings to loops, so rinse right away. Next, flush the channel and brush the loop gently. Dry it with air. It is supplied non-sterile; once cleaned and run through steam, the Knolle-Pearce loop is ready again.
