Use this Kirschner retractor blade to replace or add blades on a Kirschner abdominal frame retractor. It comes without the frame, which measures 240 x 240 mm.

Four sizes

The range covers 40 x 45, 50 x 65, 78 x 65 and 80 x 90 mm. First, the 40 x 45 mm blade handles shallow edges. Next, the larger sizes reach deeper into the abdomen.

The Kirschner frame

The Kirschner frame surrounds the incision, and the blades attach to it. So each blade can pull its section of the wound back. Meanwhile, the 240 x 240 mm frame keeps the setup compact.

Matching blade to patient

A deeper blade suits a thicker abdominal wall. However, a shorter one gives better access in a slim patient. Therefore, keep a spread of sizes with each frame.

Sold as a component

This is a blade only, not a full retractor. Also, it lets you rebuild a set after loss or damage. Plus, a spare Kirschner retractor blade keeps the tray ready.

Cleaning Kirschner retractor blade

Wash the blades apart from the frame so nothing hides in the joints. Next, check the fitting end for wear before each use. Finally, dry each blade and store the set by size.
