Description
Kelly Retractor
The Kelly retractor gives deep abdominal and pelvic exposure in open surgery. You can order a shallow blade or one of four deep blades.
Shallow blade
The 70 x 50 mm blade sits on a 26 cm instrument. So it suits the upper wall and shallow wounds in slim patients. Also, it pairs well with a deeper size in the same tray.
Deep blades
Deep blades come in 160 or 190 mm depths. Each depth has a 38 mm or a 57 mm width option. As a result, you get four deep choices, all on a 27 cm body.
Pelvic reach
Long blades hold bowel and bladder aside deep in the pelvis. However, they need a firm, steady hand from the assistant. Therefore assistants should brace the arm during long holds.
Hand-held use
This instrument works by hand, not on a frame system. Instead, teams needing a frame-mounted blade can buy that part separately. That way each setup gets the right component for its frame.
Reprocessing Kelly retractor
Wash the long blades end to end, since tissue clings near the tip. Next, rinse and check the blade for bends along its length. Finally, dry it and store the deep sizes lying flat.
