Description
Kelly Artery Forceps
Kelly artery forceps are a classic hemostat with serrations on the distal half of the jaw. This listing also covers the long Kelly dissecting and ligature pattern.
The 14 cm hemostat
The standard 14 cm size comes straight or curved. It clamps small and medium vessels on general trays.
Long Kelly, Fig 1 to Fig 3
The 19, 22 and 24 cm sizes are dissecting and ligature forceps. Each comes in three jaw curves, from Fig 1, the gentlest, to Fig 3, the strongest.
Kelly or Crile
The Crile has serrations along the whole jaw. By contrast, the Kelly’s plain proximal half lets tissue sit more loosely near the joint.
Choosing a curve
A gentle curve suits dissection close to the surface. However, a strong curve helps you reach around a structure in a deep cavity. So many thoracic and abdominal trays carry two figures in one length. Also, match the length to the depth of the field, not the size of the patient.
Cleaning Kelly artery forceps
Keep the long jaws from bending by storing them flat. Then clean the serrated half and the joint with a brush, rinse and dry fully.
