Description
Jaffe-Bechert Lens Manipulator
The Jaffe-Bechert lens manipulator is a fine 10 cm tool for moving lens material and implants inside the eye. Its slim shaft passes through a small incision. The small tip then lets you push, turn or rotate with light control.
Rotating a nucleus or lens implant
Surgeons use tools of this kind to rotate the nucleus or dial an implant into place. You engage the edge, then move in a small arc. Because the shaft is thin, the wound stays tight and the chamber stays stable.
Why a 10 cm length?
At 10 cm, the manipulator sits short and light in the hand. That suits fine work under the microscope. However, if you prefer a longer reach, compare it with our 13 cm Sinskey-style options before you choose.
Jaffe-Bechert handling tips
A few habits help:
- Enter with the tip turned to fit the wound
- Keep the movement small and slow
- Use the second hand to steady the eye
- Withdraw along the same path you entered
Jaffe-Bechert or Sinskey hook?
A Sinskey hook is longer and very common. The Jaffe-Bechert, by contrast, gives a shorter, nimble feel. Many surgeons keep both, then pick by wound site and hand size.
Cleaning a fine shaft
Thin shafts bend easily when they fall or sit under heavier tools. So store the manipulator on its own in a slotted tray. After use, flush and brush the tip, since debris clings to small bends.
Ordering the 10 cm manipulator
This Jaffe-Bechert tool comes without sterile wrap; give the fine shaft a flush, brush and autoclave run, and it can return for the next implant case. The slim Bechert shaft is stainless made to our own drawing and compliant with ASTM F899. We warrant the short manipulator for three years against manufacturing defects.
