Description
Holth Keratoplastic Punch
The Holth keratoplastic punch is a fine punch for eye surgery. It takes a small, clean bite of tissue each time the jaws close. Holth is a known name in punch design, and we supply this item in one standard version.
How a punch differs from scissors
Scissors cut along a line. A punch, however, removes a small piece in one bite. That gives a neat, even opening, which some steps need more than a long cut.
Using the Holth punch
First, seat the jaw against the tissue edge. Then close the handle with a smooth squeeze. Finally, check the bite and repeat if you need a larger opening. Small, careful bites give the cleanest result. Also, keep the punch square to the tissue, since a tilted jaw can leave an uneven edge.
Holth punch checks
- Jaws close fully with no light between them
- Cutting edges look sharp and even
- Spring returns the handle smoothly
- No tissue left in the jaw after cleaning
Holth or Haitz?
We also list a Haitz punch under the same keratoplastic heading. Both take small bites. Still, the two differ in jaw form and feel, so many surgeons pick the one they trained on.
Cleaning the Holth jaws
Tissue can lodge inside the jaw. So open the punch and flush it soon after use, before anything dries. Then brush it gently, dry it and check the edges before sterilization.
Holth punches ship non-sterile and can be reused after cleaning and sterilization each time. We specify stainless for the jaws that meets ASTM F899. Holth punch owners hold cover for three years against manufacturing defects; Holth jaws and springs both count. See our eye surgery catalog, the Haitz punch, or the help and FAQ page.
