Description
Haitz Keratoplastic Punch
The Haitz keratoplastic punch is a fine hand punch for eye surgery. It removes a small, even bite of tissue with each squeeze. We supply it in one standard version and describe it in general terms, since punch technique varies between surgeons.
What makes a punch useful
A punch cuts out a set shape in one action. As a result, the edge of the opening stays even. That can be cleaner than trimming with scissors when you need a small, neat gap.
Getting a clean Haitz bite
Place the jaw squarely on the tissue. Then close the handle in one smooth motion rather than in short jerks. If the bite looks ragged, the edges may need service. In that case, set it aside and contact us.
Haitz compared with Holth
Both punches take small bites in fine tissue. However, the jaw shape and handle feel differ. If your surgeon names one, order that one. Otherwise, try both and keep the one that feels right.
Signs the Haitz needs service
- Bites come out torn rather than clean
- Jaws no longer close fully
- The spring feels weak
- Rust spots appear near the jaw
Haitz cleaning routine
Open the punch and rinse inside the jaw soon after use. Then brush out any tissue with a small brush. Dry it fully before sterilization, because moisture trapped in the jaw can mark the steel.
Each Haitz punch arrives non-sterile; put it through cleaning and sterilization, and it is ready for many more cases. The jaws use stainless to ASTM F899. Our Haitz warranty runs three years against manufacturing defects; Haitz springs are part of it. Browse the ophthalmology instruments list, the Holth punch, or our FAQs for clinics.
Haitz punches are for trained professionals only. Our Haitz care and cleaning page and shipping help page explain the rest.
