Description
Hess Capsular Forceps, 4 x 5 Teeth
The Hess capsular forceps is one of the most compact capsule tools we stock. It has 4 x 5 teeth and comes in 6 cm, 6.5 cm or 7 cm. So you can work very close to the eye with a broad, toothed grip.
6 cm: the most compact
The 6 cm size sits almost entirely within the fingers. As a result, it gives close, precise control. However, it leaves little room for a pencil grip, so it suits surgeons who like tiny tools.
6.5 and 7 cm: a touch more reach
The 6.5 cm and 7 cm sizes add a little length. Therefore, they rest against the hand while still staying short. Most users find the 7 cm the easier choice for routine work.
Choosing the Hess size
Try to match your other forceps. For example, if your tray is mostly short tools, the 7 cm size will feel natural. Meanwhile, the 6 cm version suits special cases where space is very tight, and 6.5 cm sits between the two.

The 4 x 5 tooth row
Four teeth meet five on the opposite jaw. Thus the grip covers a broad strip without needing much force. That helps with thin capsule or membrane that might tear at one point.
Keeping a tiny tool safe
Small forceps go missing in busy trays. So give the Hess its own spot and a tip guard. After washing, a loupe check of the Hess teeth comes before each cycle.
Ordering a Hess forceps
All three sizes leave us non-sterile and are reusable. Hess buyers enjoy three years against manufacturing defects as standard. Hess teeth use stainless steel compliant with ASTM F899. For a longer 5 x 6 option, view the Stock capsular forceps. Browse our anterior segment instruments and read the FAQ before you order.
Only for professional use. Hess cleaning appears in our care section, and dispatch in our shipping section.
