The Hartmann nasal speculum spreads the nostril for examination and treatment. Clinicians use a Hartmann nasal speculum to view the septum, turbinates and nasal floor.

A standard examination speculum

Hartmann specula appear in many ENT clinics. The blades open the vestibule, and the clinician then inspects the nose with a headlight. It also leaves room for suction or forceps.

Three sizes

We offer 37 mm, 35 mm and 30 mm Hartmann specula. The listing gives these as sizes without naming the measured part. Therefore ask us if you need exact blade figures.

Using it in clinic

The clinician inserts the Hartmann with the blades closed. Then the blades open gently to widen the vestibule. Meanwhile, the other hand stays free for a second instrument.

Size selection

Most adult clinics keep more than one Hartmann size. For example, a 35 mm size may suit most patients, while 30 mm suits smaller noses. The 37 mm speculum then covers larger ones. We can also send a photo of each Hartmann next to a ruler.

Caring for the Hartmann

Wipe and rinse the blades after each patient. Also clean the hinge with a soft brush. Then dry the Hartmann and sterilize it before its next use.
