Description
Hartmann Ear Forceps Cup
These Hartmann ear forceps have small cup-shaped jaws. ENT surgeons use them to grasp and remove tissue, debris and small objects from the ear canal.
Why cup jaws
Cup jaws close around tissue and hold it inside the cups. As a result, the surgeon can remove a small sample in one piece. The cups also help collect loose debris without scattering it.
Three cup sizes
You can choose a 2 mm, 2.5 mm or 3 mm cup. The 2 mm cup suits the finest work. The 3 mm cup, meanwhile, takes more tissue per bite. The 2.5 mm size sits in between for general use.
Clinical uses
Surgeons use cup forceps to take biopsies from the ear canal. They also use them to clear granulation tissue during ear surgery. In addition, the cups help lift out small pieces of packing.
Picking a cup size
Think about the smallest space you normally reach. Tight canals favor the 2 mm size. If you take larger samples, however, choose 3 mm. Many practices simply stock all three.
Caring for your Hartmann ear forceps
Clean the inside of each cup carefully, since tissue can stick there. Rinse the forceps and brush the joint. Then dry them fully and sterilize them with the jaws open.
