Description
Guthrie Hook, 2 Prong
The guthrie hook is a two-prong hook for fixing and retracting tissue. You can order it in 12cm or 13cm. The two prongs give a steady, balanced hold that resists twisting. So it suits steps where a single hook would spin.
Why two prongs help
A single prong pulls on one point, and the tissue can rotate. Two prongs share the load. As a result, the edge stays square and the hold feels firmer. Also, two prongs leave a narrow footprint, so the hook fits small openings. In short, the Guthrie gives you control without a wide wound.
12cm or 13cm Guthrie
The 12cm size feels a little more compact in the hand. Meanwhile, the 13cm size gives extra reach for an assistant standing beside the surgeon. Both work well, so choose by reach and by how your team likes to stand. For lid work close to the surgeon, the shorter hook often feels easier. For deeper retraction, the longer one gives a better angle.

Guthrie prong care
Clean the gap between the prongs with a fine brush after each case. Then rinse and dry the hook, and check that both prongs still line up. Guthrie hooks leave us non-sterile, so they need a steriliser run before first use.
Guthrie warranty and more
Guthrie hooks of both lengths carry three years against manufacturing defects on Guthrie prongs and shafts. The steel follows ASTM F899. Browse our ophthalmic hooks and retractors, or try the Axenfeld hook with blunt and sharp tips. Our FAQs cover orders and returns.
