Description
Graefe Eye Knife
The Graefe eye knife follows the long, narrow blade made famous by Albrecht von Graefe. This 13 cm reusable steel version suits classic limbal incisions. It is one of the best known eye knife patterns in history.
The von Graefe Legacy
Von Graefe shaped modern eye surgery in 19th century Berlin. His narrow knife let surgeons make a clean incision near the limbus. So it became a standard for decades. Today it still appears in teaching and in some practices.

Eye Knife or Cataract Knife?
We list both an eye knife and a cataract knife under the Graefe name. They share the same 13 cm length. However, details of the blade can differ. So compare the photos before you choose.
Storing a Long Blade Flat
A long, narrow blade can bend if mishandled. Therefore, store it flat in a guard. Never lean weight on it. Also inspect the full edge, not just the tip.
Pre-Case Checklist
Before the list starts, confirm the Graefe went through a full cycle. Check the pack seal and the indicator. Then look at the blade once more under good light. A one minute check can save a case.
Teaching the Limbal Incision
Residents often learn the history of the limbal incision through this knife. First, they see how the long blade crossed the chamber. Then they compare it with today’s small blades. That way the lesson links past and present.
Graefe Cover and Links
Your Graefe knife reaches you unsterile. Sterilize it before first use; then, case after case, the same process readies it again. It carries three years against manufacturing defects under our terms. We select stainless steel suited to ASTM F899. Visit our eye instrument range or the Graefe cataract knife. Our FAQ list helps too.
