Description
Goldman-Fox Gum Scissors
Goldman-Fox periodontal scissors are a staple on gum surgery trays. Their curved, narrow blades trim gingiva, flap margins and tissue tags around the teeth with good visibility. Because periodontists, oral surgeons and implant dentists all work differently, we stock eight versions of the pattern rather than one.
Matching the Version to the Task
Every option on this page is named in the selector, so here is how they differ:
- Micro, Curved, 11.5 cm: the smallest pair, for delicate plastic periodontal work.
- Curved, Serrated, 12.5 cm: serrations stop tissue slipping as the blades close.
- Serrated Blade, 12.7 cm: a serrated-blade pattern for slip-free cutting.
- Super Cut, 13.2 cm: a curved, serrated Super Cut pattern, the longest here.
- Special, Curved, 13 cm: the catalogue Special pattern in stainless steel.
- For harder wear, Special, Tungsten Carbide, 13 cm adds carbide.
- Another layout, Special, Style 2, 13 cm, is a second catalogue pattern.
- Lastly, Special, Tungsten Carbide, Style 2, 13 cm pairs that pattern with carbide.
Serrated or Plain?
Wet gingiva tends to slide forward along a smooth blade. Serrated versions grip it, so the cut lands precisely. However, many clinicians prefer the Special stainless patterns for general trimming. When in doubt, compare the photos of the Style 2 options side by side.
Choosing Carbide
Tungsten carbide is harder than stainless steel. Therefore carbide pairs generally keep their working edge longer, which suits high-volume surgical practices. Smaller offices, meanwhile, often choose the stainless Special or serrated versions.
All eight pairs arrive non-sterile, so complete cleaning and sterilization before any patient contact. Each pair of Goldman-Fox periodontal scissors is opened, closed and checked by hand in the United States. In addition, every one of the eight versions holds our promise of three years against manufacturing defects, carbide included.
The steel follows ASTM F899. Explore all maxillofacial surgery instruments, and hold the tissue with matching Goldman-Fox forceps while you trim. Our FAQs answer ordering questions.
