Description
Goelet Retractor
The Goelet retractor is a double-ended hand-held retractor, 18 cm long. Its ends measure 30 x 30 mm and 40 x 40 mm.
Two ends
The 30 x 30 mm end fits a smaller wound. Meanwhile, the 40 x 40 mm end holds back more tissue in a larger opening. So you just turn the tool to switch sizes.
Hand-held use
An assistant holds it and adjusts the pull as the surgeon asks. Because of that, the angle can change from moment to moment during the case. Also, it adds flexibility alongside a self-retaining spreader.
Common settings
Goelet patterns often serve in general and plastic surgery for skin and superficial layers. Then they hold skin and fat back during dissection and closure. Plus, the 18 cm length suits shallow work close to the skin.
Pairing
Many teams keep two Goelet retractors so each side of the wound has one. That way, two assistants can open the wound evenly. Also, the double-ended design gives both pieces both sizes.
Cleaning Goelet retractor
Rinse both blade ends under running water, then dry them by hand. Next, inspect the edges for nicks that could snag tissue. Finally, store it flat with your other hand-held tools so the ends stay straight.
