Description
Gillies Hooklet
The Gillies hooklet is an 18 cm single skin hook. Plastic and reconstructive surgeons use it to lift skin edges.
A single hook
One hook lifts a skin edge at a precise point. So it avoids the crushing that forceps can cause on delicate skin. Also, it gives a clear view of the tissue beneath the flap as you dissect.
18 cm length
The 18 cm length gives reach without getting in the way. Meanwhile, the long body keeps your hand away from the field. Then fine work around the wound edge stays in clear sight throughout the procedure.
Plastic and reconstructive use
Surgeons use skin hooks when raising flaps and closing wounds. Likewise, they help with undermining at the wound edge. Therefore, most plastic sets carry at least one.
Working in pairs
Many surgeons work a hook in one hand and scissors in the other. In addition, a second Gillies hooklet lets an assistant hold the opposite edge. As a result, the wound opens evenly.
Reprocessing Gillies hooklet
Protect the hook point at all times, since a bent tip loses its grip. Next, rinse and brush it, then dry it well. Finally, store it with a tip guard or in a slotted tray.
