Gill-Hess Iris Forceps
The Gill-Hess iris forceps is a 7.5cm micro forceps with 1×2 teeth. You can order it with the teeth on the side or with the teeth below. That small change alters how the tip meets tissue, so it is worth picking with care.
Two ways to set the teeth
With teeth on the side, the bite faces sideways from the jaw. This suits a grasp from the edge, along the plane of the tissue. With teeth below, by contrast, the bite points down. That helps when you come from above and want to pick up a surface.
Side or below: choosing
First, think about your usual angle of approach. If you mostly work flat along the eye, side teeth may feel more natural. However, if you tend to reach straight down, the below option often grips with less wrist turn.
Good uses for the pattern
- Holding delicate tissue in anterior segment work
- Grasping a small flap or edge
- Steadying tissue while you cut nearby
- Fine handling under the microscope
Gill-Hess size and feel
At 7.5cm, the forceps is short and light. It sits close in the fingers and turns with small moves. Therefore, it suits fine work where you need control more than reach.
Protecting the Gill-Hess teeth
Small teeth can bend if dropped. So keep the tips covered when not in use. Also rinse it soon after the case, then dry it before sterilization. If you buy both tooth options, mark them so staff can tell them apart at a glance.
Both versions ship non-sterile and can be reused once cleaned and sterilized. The stainless steel meets ASTM F899. Our Gill-Hess warranty runs three years against manufacturing defects; Gill-Hess tooth options both qualify. For more, see the eye instruments page, the plain Gill iris forceps, or our help center.
