Description
Gardner Mallets
The Gardner mallet is a small, light hammer about 15 cm long. It suits the most delicate bone work, where gentle taps matter more than force.
Small size, fine control
A short handle and light head mean each blow stays soft. Therefore the surgeon can advance a thin blade a fraction at a time. That control helps near nerves, joints and tooth roots.
Where it fits
Hand surgeons use it for phalangeal osteotomies. Similarly, facial and oral surgeons use it with fine chisels. It also suits pediatric cases with small, soft bones.
Choosing a Gardner mallet
Pick it as the light option on a small-bone tray. Then add a heavier mallet if you also drive larger blades. Together, the two cover most needs.
Technique tips
Grip the handle lightly with the fingertips. Then use wrist motion rather than the whole arm. As a result, each tap stays small and repeatable.
Small trays, small mallets
Hand and foot sets often run short on space. Consequently, a compact 15 cm mallet fits where a long one will not. It also keeps the swing short, which suits fine work near tendons.

Care of the Gardner pattern

Delivery notes
We stand behind this mallet for three years against manufacturing defects as standard. Before the box closes, someone in Atlanta studies every mallet in person. Some trays also hold the Gerzog mallet. We also help with sizing for larger orders. Extra options appear in our orthopedics category. Smaller clinics order one per tray to cover reprocessing time. The FDA recognizes ASTM F899 as the guide for surgical instrument steel. The buyer FAQ explains common order questions.
For professional use only. The reprocessing guide covers why photos vary together with the alloy’s nickel. Refund rules live on our refund terms.
