Description
Fritsch Retractor
The Fritsch retractor lifts and holds the abdominal wall during open surgery. It measures 23 cm and offers six blade sizes to match different patients.
Six blades
Sizes run 30×30, 32×40, 40×50, 40×60, 45×75 and 65×85 mm. So small blades suit lean patients, and large ones hold a thick wall. Also, all six share one handle length.
Wall retraction
The broad blade spreads pull evenly across the abdominal wall. Then the assistant opens the field with steady, moderate tension. Because of that, the surgeon gets a clear look at deeper structures.
Size choice
Short blades work well early in the case, near the surface. However, deeper stages may need the 45 x 75 or 65 x 85 mm blade. Therefore keep at least two sizes ready on the back table.
In the tray
Most general trays carry one small and one large Fritsch retractor. Instead of stocking all six, order the sizes you use every week. That way your stock stays practical and easy to track.
Looking after Fritsch retractor
Wipe the blade face and edges soon after use so blood does not dry. Next, rinse in clean water and dry with a lint-free cloth. Finally, keep the blades from stacking on top of sharp tools.
