Freer Septum Elevator

Few septal tools appear on as many trays as the Freer septum elevator. Surgeons use it to lift mucoperichondrium and periosteum off the septum, and often to free soft tissue elsewhere in the nose.

Nine versions

We list three lengths: 18.5 cm, 19 cm and 20.5 cm. Each length comes with one of three end types: sharp/blunt, sharp, or blunt. So the range covers nine combinations in all.

Sharp, blunt, or both

A sharp end helps the surgeon cut into the right plane at the start. A blunt end then separates tissue more gently as the flap grows. Therefore the sharp/blunt version puts both jobs on one instrument, while the single-type versions keep things simple.

Choosing a length

The three lengths differ by only a couple of centimetres. However, surgeons often notice that difference in balance and reach. If you already own one, match its length to keep the set consistent.

Our advice on ordering

Many teams choose the sharp/blunt version as a default. Then they add a pure blunt one for longer dissections. Tell us how your surgeons work, and we will suggest a mix.

Caring for your Freer septum elevator

Clean both ends right away, especially the sharp tip, which can hold tissue. Next, rinse and dry it. Then run it through sterilization with the sharp end guarded.
