Freer Gouge
Otto Freer developed several septal tools, and the Freer gouge ranks among them. It is a straight nasal gouge that removes bone along the septum and nasal floor.
Straight and direct
The straight shaft passes each mallet tap straight to the edge. So the surgeon can guide the cut with confidence. The hollow blade then lifts a rounded strip of bone.
A 15 cm size
We list this pattern at 15 cm with a straight shape, which keeps things simple. So it handles work close to the nostril with good control. Because we list no blade width, email us and we will check.
When a gouge helps
For example, a bony spur may press against the side wall of the nose. The surgeon can then lower it with a gouge. Next, forceps remove the loose pieces.
Choosing straight or curved
Straight gouges suit direct access. However, curved gouges help when the angle is awkward. Many septal sets hold both, so compare this with our curved Killian patterns.
Caring for your Freer gouge
Clean the hollow blade soon after each case with a narrow brush. Then rinse and dry it well. Also cover the edge before sterilization and storage.
