Francis Foreign Body Instrument
The Francis foreign body instrument is a slim named pattern for clinic particle work. It suits quick cases where a speck sits on the cornea or under a lid. You hold it like a pen and work with short, light strokes.
Grip and Hand Rest
A pen grip gives the most control. Also, rest the ring or little finger on the patient’s cheek. Should the patient shift, your hand then drifts along in step. Then the tip keeps the same distance from the eye.
Laying Out the Tray
Place the tool on the side of your working hand. Next to it, set swabs, saline and a lid retractor. Keep sharp items apart so nobody reaches over a point. In short, a calm layout makes a calm case.
Choosing Francis
- This listing has one form, so there is no size to pick.
- Its slim build suits fine surface work.
- Compare its tip with Alvis or Levinson in the photos.
- Keep a broader spud for flat flakes.
Cleaning the Working End
Clean it while debris is still wet. After a rinse, soak it in enzyme solution and brush the tip with care. Rinse, dry and inspect it under magnification. If the end looks bent, set it aside.
Light Work, Short Strokes
Short strokes mean the tip never leaves your sight. So you always know the depth. If the speck resists, stop and rethink rather than push. Often a change of angle or a fresh drop of anesthetic is all it takes.
Warranty Details and Links
Every piece leaves our hands non-sterile, so plan a full clean and sterilizing run before any reuse.
