Fletcher Polypus And Dressing Forceps
The Fletcher sponge forceps hold swabs and grasp soft tissue in deep fields. At 24 cm, they reach the pelvis and the bottom of a long abdominal wound, while the handles stay above the skin.
Length of the Fletcher sponge forceps
Twenty-four centimetres suits deep work without feeling unwieldy. In addition, the ring handles give a comfortable, balanced grip during long cases.
Holding swabs
The jaws close firmly on a folded swab. As a result, the swab stays in place while the team mops blood or applies steady pressure to an oozing surface.
Grasping tissue
The same jaws can also hold soft tissue or a polyp. With gentle pressure, they lift tissue without tearing, which makes them useful in vaginal procedures.
Typical procedures
Pelvic surgery, caesarean section and vaginal repairs all call for long sponge forceps. For example, the team uses them to dry the pelvis before closing the abdomen.
Building a set
Many trays carry one medium and one long sponge forceps. In that pairing, the Fletcher covers the long end of the range, while a shorter pattern handles the skin.
Swab safety
Every swab placed on a forceps must be counted out again. Therefore, theatres usually load radiopaque swabs and record each one before closure.
