Description
Fahlbusch Scoop Malleable
The Fahlbusch scoop is a malleable scoop for transsphenoidal pituitary surgery. Surgeons shape the shaft before use, then scoop out soft tumor tissue from the sella.
A scoop for soft tissue
Many pituitary tumors are soft. As a result, a scoop can lift the tissue out in pieces instead of cutting it. The malleable shaft lets the surgeon angle the scoop toward areas outside the straight line.
The 25 cm length
We list the scoop at 25 cm. That length passes comfortably through a nasal speculum. If you need the scoop head size, please contact us and we will measure it for you.
Scoop or curette
Curettes scrape and cut, while scoops collect tissue. So surgeons often alternate between the two during tumor removal. For example, a curette may loosen tissue and then the scoop lifts it out.
Completing the pituitary tray
This scoop fits alongside the Fahlbusch curette and other Landolt and Hardy instruments. In addition, many teams add scoops of other sizes. Ask us if you want help filling out a transsphenoidal set.
Caring for your Fahlbusch scoop
Rinse the scoop head as soon as possible, because tissue dries quickly in the cup. Next, brush both sides of the head and the shaft. Then dry the scoop completely and sterilize it.
