Description
Eye Scalpel
This ophthalmic eye scalpel is a 13 cm handled knife for fine, controlled cuts around the eye. It suits clinics that want a plain fixed-blade tool for lid and surface work.
One Length, One Pen Grip
The scalpel comes in a single 13 cm length, so there is no size to pick. That reach keeps your hand away from the face while the tip stays close to the work. Most users hold it like a pen, with the wrist resting on the brow.
Small Jobs Around the Lid
In practice, a small knife like this helps with a skin cut on the lid, opening a cyst, or freeing a tag of tissue. It can also trim conjunctiva when scissors feel bulky. However, it does not replace a keratome when you plan a corneal entry.
Tips for a Clean Incision
A keen edge needs little force. So let the blade do the work and use short, even strokes.
- Rest the hand on something firm before each pass
- Start shallow, then deepen the cut
- Look at the edge under magnification between cases
- Retire the knife if the tip shows a burr or chip
Looking After the Point
After each case, rinse off blood before it dries. Next, brush the blade from spine to edge, never across it. Also store it in a slotted tray or tip guard, because a bumped point dulls fast.
When a Keratome Fits Better
If your list is mostly limbal or corneal entry, a shaped keratome blade gives more control. But for routine lid and surface tasks, the ophthalmic eye scalpel offers a familiar grip at a modest reach.
The scalpel goes out non-sterile; a full wash and sterilization cycle readies it for each new patient. Blade and handle use stainless steel graded under ASTM F899, built to our own design with checks in the United States. The scalpel warranty: three years against manufacturing defects, edge wear aside.
