Description
DeBakey Atrauma Bulldog Clamp
The DeBakey bulldog clamp offers temporary, atraumatic vessel occlusion in a wide range of sizes. You can choose straight or curved jaws.
Straight sizes
The straight version comes in 7.5, 8, 8.5, 10, 10.5, 12 and 13 cm. So you can match clamp size closely to the vessel. Also, straight jaws suit vessels approached head-on.
Curved sizes
Curved options run 7, 8, 10, 11.5 and 13 cm. Therefore, the surgeon can angle around a vessel and keep the tip in view. Many trays hold both styles in a few key sizes rather than the full range.
Why DeBakey jaws
DeBakey jaws spread their hold along the vessel for a gentle grip. As a result, they rank among the most familiar atraumatic patterns. Then the clamp comes off once the anastomosis or repair ends.
Building a bulldog set
Start with two or three straight sizes and one or two curved ones. Next, add sizes as surgeons request them. In addition, keep spares of the most used sizes so the set stays complete.
Cleaning DeBakey bulldog clamp
Rinse each bulldog before blood dries in the jaws. Then sort them by size and style, since similar clamps look alike at a glance. Finally, store every DeBakey bulldog clamp in a rack with marked spaces.
