Description
Cushing Laminectomy Rongeur, 2 x 10 mm, Bayonet-Shaped
The Cushing bayonet rongeur is a fine laminectomy rongeur with a bayonet-shaped shaft. Surgeons use it to remove disc material and small pieces of bone, especially under the microscope.
Why a bayonet shape
A bayonet shaft offsets the hand from the line of sight. Therefore, the surgeon can look down the working channel while the hand stays to one side. That helps greatly in microscope-assisted spinal surgery.
Options offered
We sell the Cushing bayonet rongeur in 12, 15 and 17 cm lengths. Each length comes with a straight jaw, a 45-degree up jaw or a 45-degree down jaw. All versions have a 2 x 10 mm bite, which gives nine options in total.
In microsurgical spine work
For instance, during a microdiscectomy the straight version clears fragments directly ahead. Meanwhile, the angled jaws reach above and below the tip. So, the surgeon can finish the disc space without changing the view.
Making your choice
First, consider whether you work under the microscope often. If so, the bayonet form may suit you better than a straight shaft. Next, choose lengths and angles to match your usual depth.
Caring for your Cushing bayonet rongeur
Rinse the jaw right after surgery, before debris hardens. Then brush the joint and along the bayonet bend. Dry it thoroughly and sterilize it in a tray that protects the tip.
