Description
Cusco-Virgin Vaginal Speculum, Side Screw
The Cusco virgin speculum is a narrow-blade version of the classic Cusco bivalve speculum. It suits patients with a small introitus, where a standard width would feel uncomfortable.
Narrow blades
The blades measure 75 mm long and 17 mm wide. So they enter a small opening more gently than wider blades. That way, clinicians can still view the cervix when space runs short.
Side screw
A side screw sets and holds the opening between the blades. Then the clinician can release the grip once the view looks right. However, tighten the screw only as far as needed.
Bivalve design
Like other Cusco specula, it has two blades that part to reveal the cervix. Therefore, it serves routine examinations and cervical sampling. Also, it sits easily beside standard sizes in an exam drawer.
When to reach for it
Keep a Cusco virgin speculum on hand for patients who cannot tolerate a standard blade width. Meanwhile, standard Cusco sizes cover routine exams. Plus, having both avoids delays in a busy clinic.
Reprocessing Cusco virgin speculum
Open the side screw fully so water flows between the blades. Next, clean the screw threads with a small brush. Then dry the speculum and store it with the blades closed but the screw loose.
