Description
Cooper Ligature Needle
The Cooper ligature needle carries ligatures around vessels with a blunt, curved tip. The rounded end parts tissue gently, so it rarely injures nearby structures.
Two lengths
We offer 19 cm and 20 cm. The shorter needle gives fine control. Meanwhile, the longer one reaches slightly deeper.
Why a blunt tip
A blunt end follows tissue planes rather than cutting through them. As a result, veins and nerves beside the target stay safe.
Typical uses of the Cooper ligature needle
Many teams use it to tie a named artery before cutting it. Ducts and tubes can also be looped with a tape this way.
Technique
Ease the blunt end under the vessel until it shows on the far side. Load the thread there, and pull the needle back to carry it round.
A classic pattern
The Cooper design has served surgeons for generations. Consequently, most staff recognise it at once.
Cooper ligature needle sizes
The one centimetre between the two sizes sounds small. Even so, it changes how the needle sits in the hand, so many surgeons try both before settling on a favourite.
