Conway Lid Instrument
The conway lid instrument is a 13cm tool for lifting and moving the eyelid. It gives you steady control of the lid, so you can see and reach the area you need. We offer one pattern in one length.
A longer lid tool for steady control
At 13cm, the Conway gives you a bit more length than a short lid tool. That helps when an assistant holds it from the side of the table. Also, the extra reach keeps hands out of your view. So the field stays clear, and the surgeon keeps an open line of sight to the lid margin.
Where the Conway fits in
Use it in lid work, in exams of the upper lid and in other cases where you need to lift or hold the lid. It works well with a speculum or on its own for short tasks. However, keep the pressure light, because the lid tissue is thin.
Tips for the Conway
- Lift the lid with a slow, even pull.
- Keep the tip away from the cornea.
- Swap hands with an assistant if the case runs long.
- Check the tip and shaft for bends after use.
Conway cleaning routine
Start with a cool rinse after the case. Then wash the tool with a soft brush and rinse it again. Dry it before packing. Conway tools leave us non-sterile, which means a complete steriliser pass comes first. From there, the Conway can return to your lid tray again and again.
