Description
Cobb Bone Curette
The Cobb bone curette is a long spinal curette with an oval cup. It is a familiar sight on spine trays, where it clears disc material and prepares fusion surfaces.
Built for the spine
John Cobb worked on scoliosis, and many spinal tools carry the name. Also, this curette has the length and stiffness for deep work. Meanwhile, the sharp cup removes cartilage and soft tissue cleanly.
Nine cup sizes
Cups start at 4.06 x 5.08 mm and rise in steps to 12.19 x 15.24 mm. The odd decimals come from inch-based sizing. So each step adds a small, even amount of width and length.
Using the Cobb bone curette
Insert the cup into the disc space, then pull back along the endplate. As a result, cartilage peels away and bleeding bone appears. That surface helps a fusion take.
Building a set
Most spine trays carry three to five sizes. For example, a small, a middle and a large cup cover many cases. Later, you can add sizes as needed.
Cobb bone curette sizes
- 4.06 x 5.08, 5.08 x 6.35, 6.10 x 7.62 mm
- 7.11 x 8.89, 8.13 x 10.16, 9.14 x 11.43 mm

Reprocessing tips
Disc tissue sticks firmly, so soak and brush the cup soon after the case. Then rinse, dry and inspect the rim. Replace curettes whose rims have rolled.
After you buy
A team member in Atlanta looks over the Cobb pattern by eye before the courier comes. Every order gets three years against manufacturing defects covering this Cobb curette without a fee. Further patterns feature in the orthopedic instrument list. The FDA lists ASTM F899 as a reference for stainless steel in surgical tools. With a general query, see the buyer FAQ. Searching for a size we do not list? Reach out for a quick answer. For a sister pattern, consider our Cobb elevator. Larger units stock one per tray to avoid delays.
