Childe Suture Instrument

Description

Childe Clip Forceps

The Childe clip forceps apply wound clips along long skin incisions. At 18 cm, the pattern is longer than most clip forceps, which helps when working across a wide abdomen.

With or without a handle

One version adds a handle for a firmer, more palm-based grip. In addition, the other keeps a slim profile. As a result, you can match the tool to the hand of the person who uses it most.

Length of the Childe clip forceps

The longer body keeps the hand well back from the wound. In turn, the assistant can see the whole line of clips while working.

Long incisions

Midline laparotomies and long flank wounds can need dozens of clips. For that reason, a comfortable grip matters more here than on a short incision.

Working rhythm

One person everts the edges while the other places clips. With practice, the pair settles into a steady rhythm that closes the wound quickly.

Comparing clip patterns

Shorter forceps like the Michel suit small wounds. By contrast, the Childe suits longer ones. Also, many theatres stock both.

Buying support

Our Atlanta inspector inspects every forceps under good light before it ships. With or without its handle, the Childe has three years against manufacturing defects. Other patterns are in the general surgery line. To round out the tray, look at the Hegenbarth forceps. To read about surgical-grade stainless, check ASTM F899.
