One Blade, Several Jobs

During implant placement, the blade holds the buccal flap away from the drill. During an extraction, it moves the cheek aside for a clear line to the tooth. In addition, it can rest against the tongue while the operator works on the lingual side. That versatility is why many practices keep two or three on hand.

Protecting the Flap While You Drill

A reflected mucoperiosteal flap is thin and easy to catch with a rotating bur. So the assistant places the blade between the flap and the instruments. Then the flap stays clear of the cutting zone. Gentle, steady pressure works better than pulling hard, which only tires the hand.
