Description
Castaneda Atrauma and Pediatric Clamp
The Castaneda pediatric clamp suits the tiny vessels of neonates and young children. It comes in seven figures, split across two short lengths.
Figures and lengths
Figures 1 to 3 measure 13 cm. By contrast, Figures 4 to 7 come in slightly shorter at 12 cm. So the smaller group suits the most confined neonatal fields.
Made for neonates
Newborn vessels leave very little margin for error. Therefore, this clamp keeps its size small and its grip atraumatic. Surgeons can occlude flow while sparing the delicate wall.
Picking a figure
Each figure carries its own jaw shape. However, the listing does not describe them in words, so compare the photos. Then match the figure to the vessel and approach you use most.
A place in the congenital tray
Congenital heart teams often keep several figures side by side. Plus, a Castaneda pediatric clamp pairs well with other small vascular clamps. That way, the tray covers both arteries and veins in infants.
Reprocessing Castaneda pediatric clamp
Handle these small clamps one at a time so the fine jaws do not tangle. Next, clean them open in a basket made for microsurgical tools. Finally, dry and store each figure in a slot that protects its tips.
