Description
Caspar Scalpel Handle
The Caspar scalpel handle is a long handle for holding a blade deep in the surgical field. Spine surgeons use it to cut tissue at depth, for example when opening the annulus during disc surgery.
Reach at depth
A standard scalpel handle is too short for deep microsurgical work. However, the Caspar handle extends the blade down into the wound. As a result, the surgeon’s hand stays out of the microscope’s view.
One 18 cm handle
We sell the handle in an 18 cm length. Blade fitting varies between patterns. So, please contact us before ordering to confirm that it accepts the blades your hospital stocks.
Use in microdiscectomy
First, the surgeon exposes the disc under the microscope. Next, the handle carries the blade down to the annulus for a controlled incision. Then rongeurs and dissectors remove the disc material.
Setting up a microdiscectomy tray
This handle works best alongside specula, micro dissectors and rongeurs. For instance, many teams keep one handle loaded and a second ready. Also check that your blade sizes match before surgery.
Caring for your Caspar scalpel handle
Remove the blade safely using a blade remover after every case. Then rinse and brush the handle, paying attention to the blade seat. Afterward, let it dry and put it through your usual sterilization cycle.
